Yobe State government has discredited a report widely circulated on the social media, alleging that Boko Haram terrorists were moving towards Damaturu, the state capital.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam ,Retd, in a statement made available to AljazirahNigeria in Damaturu, described the report as false, misleading, attributing it to the handiwork of mischief makers in the state.
The purported intelligence report titled ‘Immediate Security Alert,’ was making the rounds online, claiming that suspected Boko Haram fighters were advancing towards Damaturu.
According to Abdulsalam, the information, which he said did not emanate from his office, should be disregarded in its entirety as having no basis.
He also urged the public, especially residents of Damaturu town, to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear.
