Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, said his administration has renovated and furnished over 60 schools.

The minister stated this yesterday, following an inspection of ongoing rural road construction projects from A2 to Pai, and Aguma Palace in Gwagwalada and Kwali Area Councils.

Wike emphasised that his administration is focused on more than just building roads, stating, however, that the roads provide access to schools, hospitals and markets, as well as assisting in the fight against insecurity.

“We have done a lot of work on schools. The schools we have renovated and furnished are more than 60. But I can tell you, no sector will be left abandoned. Every sector will be focused on. But again, you know that the road network is what brings development. When there are no roads, which school will you go to? When there are no roads, which hospital will you go to? So first of all, the key thing that drives development is road network.

“Now, if you are talking about agriculture, how do you go and bring your produce when there is no road? So those who are farming here will be happy that we looked at the roads. We can now take our produce to the city, to the markets to sell. And then again, fighting insecurity is key. When people commit offences and there are no roads to trace them, it becomes a problem. But if you see this kind of road with streetlights, obviously you have to think twice before you commit an offence,” he said.

Wike also commended the quality of work done by the contractors, while appreciating the president’s support towards the completion of the project.

“When you have the right leadership, you are bound to achieve results. All those working with you will key in, knowing fully well, this is your vision and mission. Knowing fully well that you are committed to it and you want to achieve results. So nobody will have excuses to give. The president has given us the necessary support. So once again, there won’t be any excuse that you are unable to perform. So we are quite happy that the promises we made have been fulfilled,” he stated.
