We’re Awaiting FG’s Directives To Commence 5G Network – NCC Boss

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, has revealed that the Commission has conducted research on the 5G network technology at six different locations in Nigeria, made their recommendations to the federal government, and as soon as the presidency gives approval, the 5G network would be deployed to Nigerian telecom market.

Professor Danbatta made this statement while responding to question asked by newsmen during the interactive session with media chiefs and news editors, which was held at Communications and Digital Economic Complex Auditorium, Mbora District, Abuja on Friday, September 4, 2020.

Though the EVC said he did not want to preempt the presidential decision, but was optimistic that the improved network will soon become a reality, and that the Commission made their research in collaboration with the security agencies on the safety of the technology to the society. 

He believed that the coming of 5G network will surely improve internet services.

On the fine imposed on telecom giant, MTN Nigeria, the EVC said they have paid N340 billion in full, being the amount they were asked to pay after reduction for the earlier sum.
