FROM RAHILA ABDULLAHI, KADUNA
Kaduna State House of Assembly has said it has the constitutional right to probe the immediate past governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai on his administration.
The claim came after El-Rufai had spoken in an interview alleging that the assembly does not have the capacity to probe his administration.
The chairman, House Committee on Information, Henry Marah, in an interview with newsmen at the Assembly Complex on Monday, March 18, 2025 had said it is disheartening to note that the Governor is ignorant of the provision of Constitution.
“Section 128 and 129 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as Amended) empowers the Assembly to conduct investigations on any matter or thing with respect to which it has power to make Laws”.
In his allegation that the report of the Ad-hoc Committee that investigated his Government was written by someone that was paid to do so, the Chairman committee on Information stated categorically that Members of the Assembly possessed both Legal, educational and moral qualification for election and on the basis of which they were elected into the Assembly and have dutifully discharged their Constitutional responsibilities to carry out the investigation.
“Members of the Assembly have met constitutional requirement to contest and win their various elections as enshrined in section 106 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as Amended), however, none of us can be called stark illiterates as he claimed”.
We want to categorically say that the Assembly will take appropriate legal action against the former Governor for calling us stark illiterates. Marah said.
On the relief of the former Executive Chairman Kaduna Internal Revenue Service, Abubakar Zaid of his appointment, I want to state that the Speaker, Yusuf Dahiru Liman has no power to hire or fire any appointed officer in the State.
“All the findings of the Committee against the former Governor and his Government are in the public domain and that his attempt to impugn the report in court failed and until the Committee’s report is successfully challenged in court, the former Governor remain indicted”.
Recall that the former governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai had yesterday on an interview in a radio discussion program alleged the above mentioned about the members of the 10th Assembly.
