Minister of Works, David Umahi, has emphasised the use of continuous reinforced concrete pavement technology on select roads across the country, particularly in flood-prone areas and locations with high water tables that see heavy traffic.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, Umahi emphasised the importance of this method in improving the durability and reliability of Nigeria’s road infrastructure.
During an inspection of the 2.46-kilometer Special Intervention Project on the East-West Road in Delta State, managed by M/S Truetech Global Investment Services Limited, Umahi expressed satisfaction with the quality of the concrete work.
“Concrete pavement is ideal for areas with heavy rainfall. Roads built with concrete can last between 50 to 100 years, whereas asphalt ones may deteriorate within 10 years. Concrete is the solution for flood-prone roads”, Umahi stated.
Engaging with local youth and community leaders, Umahi received positive feedback on the federal government’s efforts.
Community members praised the quality of work and requested further infrastructure development in their areas.
Additional projects inspected included the 110.63-kilometer dualization of the Sapele–Agbor–Ewu Road, the 83.3-kilometer rehabilitation of the Asaba-Agbor Dual Carriageway, and the 23.2-kilometer reconstruction of the Benin-Sapele-Warri Dual Carriageway.
Umahi asked contractors to speed up their work, citing President Bola Tinubu’s significant interest in the early completion of these projects.
He also urged the public to understand and cooperate as efforts to improve Nigeria’s road network continue.
