Troops Repel Deadly Attack In Borno As Suspected Boko Haram Burnt 4 Military Van


The Nigeria troops have confirmed it repelled an attempt by suspected members of Boko Haram terrorists to overrun a military formation in Molai village of Borno state in Norheast Nigeria.

According to sources, the terrorists launched the attack at about 5:00 pm.

One of the community members told AljazirahNigeria on telephone that the terrorists engaged troops in a heated gunbattle for at least an hour until reinforcements; both land and air joined the defense.

He added that they were eventually pushed out of the town, thanks to the reinforcements.

He also confirmed that they however ‘burnt four military vehicles and carted away with one,’ our sources said.

Tthe source who did not want a mention of his name in print added that the terrorists seemed to have obtained information about troops” movement into the general area.

Another source believed that the attack must have stemmed from that, adding that it is a likely attempt to destabilize any possible military operation in the area.

Suspected Boko Haram members

‘They must have had sources that informed them of our movement because some of our people have gone to Damboa.

‘But right now, air force is after them,’ the source said.

Our correspondent confirmed that the terrorists have been chased out of the community and are being pursued by fighter jets.

They are currently under intense military onslaught in the area, extending from Damboa down to Sambisa Forest and the Mandara Mountains, which take the form of Operation Desert Sanity.

Under the operation, many of their camps in the Sambisa Forest have been effectively cleared.

AljazirahNigeria learnt that Molai is an outskirt community located along Maiduguri – Damboa Road of Borno State.
