Terrorists who abducted Kaduna bound train passengers from Abuja on March 28, yesterday released another heart- wrecking video in which the captives were wreathing in pains as their abductors flog them over failure to pay ransom demanded.

AljazirahNigeria reported that eight passengers were killed when the attackers stormed the train and whisked away no fewer than 61 travelers but 43 victims still remain in captivity as the terrorists demand N100 million to secure their freedom.

In the two minutes, fifty seconds video, a male captive said the terrorists don’t plan to keep them alive in the next one week but the Federal Government’s failure is responsible for their ordeal.

Speaking in Hausa the visibly disturbed victim then called on the international community and the United Nations to come to their rescue, blaming the Nigerian government for lack of adequate interest to fast track their freedom.

Besides, one of the terrorists in the video vowed that they would abduct President Muhammadu Buhari and the Kaduna State Governor Nasiru el’Rufai as well as other citizens and destabilise the nation failure to meet their demand.

The terrorists further threatened to kill or sell off some of the remaining Kaduna-Abuja train passengers in their custody.

“This is our message to the government of Nigeria and just as you have seen these people here, by God’s grace, you will see your leaders; your senators and governors will come before us. These ones you are seeing here, we will keep some as our slaves and sell them off just as our Imam told you in the past.

“Just like the Chibok girls that were sold off, we will equally sell these ones as slaves. If you don’t adhere to our demands, we will kill the ones we need to kill and sell the remaining. By God’s grace, el’Rufai, Buhari, we will bring you here”.

Recall that, 75 days after the incidents, the terrorists released 11 persons held in captivity which according to Tukur Mamu, the negotiator and media consultant to the Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, described as was achieved “following a series of robust engagement with the terrorists and with the approval of the Federal Government”.

However, on July 9, seven of the victims were later released after reportedly paying N800 million ransom.

One of the released victims still pass the message that the terrorists had threatened to kill and sell off some of the remaining Kaduna-Abuja train passengers in their custody. Although, he denied the news of snake bite, and deliberate killing of one of the victims as false but the terrorists kill cows, and cook other food for them, blames the Federal Government for refusing to release their family members taken away by the security agencies to an undisclosed prison.

Meanwhile the spokesman of the Coalition of Northern Groups ,CNG, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman has reacted to the video threat released by bandits said, the coalition is very worried by the latest twist in Nigeria’s security situation which has exposed the glaring failure on the part of our government to check growing national threats”.

In the face of the latest development, Nigerians would be right to resort to self help because obviously the bandits and insurgents have sensed a huge vacuum in the capacity and political will to challenge them. It is this vacuum the criminals exploit with ease and at will while the government, which is supposed to be the first responder, appears to be either living in perpetual denial or totally ignorant of reality.

We have viewed the video clip and assessed the contents and find it  disturbing to realize that Nigeria has final come to terms with the reality that it has completely lost control of its forests, land borders, highways and to some extent, the airways and seas to insane bandits and insurgents in the North, deadly armed separatist armies in the East, pirates and other assortments of criminal gangs in the far South and the West.

The audacious violence shown in the video released by the terrorists and the open threats to abduct the President and governors prove the extent to which the country has lost out to the bandits.

In the same vein, Sen Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central senator has reacted to the video released by terrorist bandits yesterday assaulting the abducted passengers of Abuja- Kaduna bound train. In a series of tweets, Sani advised the Federal Government to either go for the remaining victims or negotiate for their release as the video where the terrorists were flogging innocent victims was dehumanizing.

“When terrorists post video of torture to the public, they were waging a psychological war to bring attention to their demands, we don’t have a thick forest in the North-west to warrant over 3 months of captivity”, he wrote.

According to Abdullahi Mahmood, a resident of the FCT, whether anybody wants to admit it or not, the current administration has failed in the vital area of providing security of life and property to its citizens.

All the signs of imminent failure or perhaps complete failure of state have manifested in Nigeria as its government has failed to maintain a monopoly on the legitimate use of physical force within its borders”.

Abdullahi called on Nigerians that will survive till  2023 to be careful in voting candidates seeking for any position because the current administration of President Buhari who the masses voted for, especially the North has disappointed everyone.

With the current dominant presence of warlords, paramilitary groups, corrupt policing, armed gangs, terrorism, and a messed up security apparatus of the country, the very existence of the state has been rendered dubious, and the Nigerian state is by all indicators appearing like a failed state.

In the same vein, terrorists yesterday killed a driver of Katsina State Transport Authority and abducted unknown numbers of passengers along Kastina-Jibia road. The gory video that went viral, the driver was bleeding profusely belted to his seat while the terrorists were seen thanking Allah for their successful attack.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has reacted to the video of terrorists flogging their captives and threatened to kill him and Governor el’Rufai as a mere propaganda. The president said this through his Media Aide Garba Shehu yesterday in Abuja describing it as cheap propaganda that the security is on top of the situation.

“ Terrorists activity using propaganda and the use of violence to coarse the government to accept to their demand is not new all over the world, the security are not clueless but has plans which they will not display in the media”, Shehu said.
