Hiitom Orbiam community and environs in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State has been thrown into mourning, following the tragic death of a middle aged woman after giving birth to a set of quadruplets at a private hospital.
AljazirahNigeria learnt that after the woman’s death which was blamed on complications and poor healthcare, two of the babies also passed on.
The health officer-in-charge of the facility, Isaac Gbilin said the deceased was brought to the facility at about 4am in a wheelbarrow after she had been delivered of the first two babies on the way and later the last two at the clinic.
Gbilin said after delivery, the victim ran shot of blood, while the babies were discovered to be pre-mature.
He also disclosed that efforts by Benue State Emergency Management Agency, BSEMA, whose swift action to move the woman and the babies to Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH, Makurdi, for better healthcare did not yield positive results, leading to the death of the other babies.
He said efforts by the team from BSEMA to rush one of the quadruplets who was still alive to the General Hospital, Katsina-Ala to stabilise her was in vain, as the baby also died in the process.
Commenting, kindred head of Hiitom Orbiam, Samuel Iorhule expressed appreciation to the state government for its prompt action, appealing for the provision of basic amenities.
