President Bola Tinubu will present the 2025 budget proposal to the National Assembly on Tuesday, December 17
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio dropped the hint on Thursday as the upper legislative chamber was about to round off its plenary session.
While making the announcement, Akpabio enjoined senators to be punctual for the traditional joint sitting of the Senate and House of Representatives to receive the budget proposal from President Tinubu.
“I enjoin all senators to report as early as 10:30 am on Tuesday so that we can all move over to the House of Representatives chambers for the presentation of the 2025 budget by President Tinubu”, Akpabio said.
The proposed 2025 budget is estimated at N47. 9 trillion N47.9. This represents a 36.6% increase (or about ₦12.85 trillion) above the government’s 2024 budget of N35.06 trillion.
The budget cycle reverted to January to December during the 9th Senate, after several years of distortions to the cycle following late submission of the budget proposals by the executive.
It’s however remains uncertain if the National Assembly would be able to pass the 2025 budget that is being presented just two weeks to the end of the year.
