Tinubu Declares Gateway Festival Open, Says  NSF  Promotes Unity

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Sunday in Ogun State, reaffirmed the National Sports Festival ,NSF, as a vital rallying point for national unity.

Speaking through Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta during the opening ceremony of the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of unity and sportsmanship.

He urged the over 10,000 participating athletes drawn from the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory ,FCT, Abuja, to compete fairly and uphold the values envisioned by the founding fathers of the Festival.

The President commended the Ogun State Government for its resilience and commitment in successfully hosting the national event.

The vibrant opening ceremony featured electrifying performances by Nigerian music superstars Davido and Asa, thrilling the audience at the MKO Sports Arena. The event also showcased world-class activities and cultural displays, delighting spectators and setting an exciting tone for the Games.

Director General of the National Sports Commission ,NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, who also serves as the Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, played a key role in delivering the successful launch of the Festival.

Among the dignitaries at event is the former President of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the award winning Prof Wole Soyinka,  former Governors, Senators amongst the other.

The NSF holds from May 16 to May 30 with over 15,000 athletes from states across the country expected to compete in individual and team sports
