Terror Attacks: FG To Ban Motorcycles Nationwide

Federal government yesterday revealed its plan to thwart terrorist activities in the country including banning motorcycles and mining nationwide to cut off sources of funding for terror activities.

Briefing State House Correspondents at the end of a National Security Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami said the decision to focus on the logistics used by the terrorists was deliberate.

Malami, who spoke to newsmen alongside the Ministers of Interior and Police Affairs, Rauf Aregbesola and Mohammed Dingyadi, respectively, said the ban would include motorcycles used for movement and mining, which he said provided the insurgents the money to fund their arms supply.

The AGF added that the federal government is now looking into ways to stem the actions of terror groups by blocking the already identified sources.

He noted that terrorists have shifted from traditional methods of funding to mining and ransom taking, necessitating government’s action.

Also speaking, the minister of interior confirmed that significant efforts were made to gather intelligence prior to the recent attack on Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja but expressed regret that there was a lack of will to act on it.

Aregbesola said preliminary investigation on the attack had been submitted to the president, even as he assured that those found to have shrieked their responsibilities at the end of the ongoing investigation would be punished.
