Stray Bullets Hit Residents, As Gunmen Attack Adamawa Community

Two residents of Garaha Village in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State are currently under intensive medical care at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Yola, following bullet wounds that they sustained when unknown gunmen attacked their community.

Relations of the victims, who spoke to our correspondent at the medical centre, said the victims are gradually recuperating, as they expressed hope that they might likely survive the attack.

Sources close to the incident told our correspondent that though the motives of the gunmen were not immediately known, the timely intervention of the combined forces of the military, police and local vigilantes averted possible bloodshed among residents. 

According to the sources, though the resistant forces compelled the attackers to flee during an exchange of fire, the community recorded two casualties who were hit by stray bullets.

The same sources commended security personnel for putting up a stiff resistance and averting bloodshed.

The said they experienced a scary situation which threw the whole community into chaos and confusion, causing many villagers to flee for safety.

The newly installed Tol Huba, Barrister Alheri Bulus Nyako during a sympathy visit to the community expressed commitment to foster peace throughout Huba land and prayed for God’s protection.

The monarch, who acknowledged the efforts of the state and local governments in restoring and ensuring lasting peace in the state, urged the people of Garaha to embrace unity and harmony.

The Chairman of Hong Local Government Council, Inuwa Usman Wa’aganda encouraged local vigilante groups and residents to sustain their support to security agencies, noting that it would pave the way for enduring peace and harmony.

He sympathised with the families of the victims and the community over the unfortunate incident and intimated that the council had put every mechanism in place to prevent future occurrence, stressing the significance of unity during such challenging moments.

District Head of Dugwaba, Mr Simon Yakubu also restated his commitment to peace and development of Hoba Chiefdom and urged his subjects to collaborate with government and security officials for peaceful coexistence.
