0Stakeholders in the sports sector have commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its sports development initiatives, particularly the reinstatement of the National Sports Commission (NSC) as the governing body for sports in Nigeria.
Some of the stakeholders who spoke in Abuja ,said that the move had a significant impact on sports in the country over the past two years.
They also highlighted the timely payment of bonuses and allowances to athletes.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Kabiru Amadu, said that Tinubu had tripled the budget of the sports sector from N29 biilion in 2024 to N94 billion in 2025.
“ This significant increase represents a 227 per cent boost, which I believe will address long-standing challenges in Nigeria’s sports development ,” he said.
Musibau Didi, Former President of Nigeria Para Soccer Federation, said Tinubu’s administration’s efforts to empower people with disabilities with the appointments of Senior Special Assistant on Disability Matters and Executive Secretary of the National Disabilities Commission, shows inclusivity.
Didi said that the stakeholders endorsement underscores the positive impact of President Tinubu’s sports initiatives on the nation’s sports landscape.
“ With these developments, Nigerians are optimistic about the future of sports and disability empowerment in the country,” he said.
Didi’s said these initiatives underscore the administration’s efforts to promote the welfare and rights of people with disabilities, and fostering a more inclusive society.
Former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia who commended Tinubu’s administration for reinstating the NSC as the governing body for sports in Nigeria, siad its demonstrates the administration’s commitment to sports development.
He expressed optimism about the plan to provide training compensation for athletes, a long-overdue development.
