Security Concerns: FCTA Sets Up Committee To Tackle Influx Of Almajiris, Others Into Abuja

Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has set up a committee comprising of heads of all security agencies in the territory with the mandate to tackle the increasing influx of Almajiris and other elements into the territory.

This formed part of the outcome of the FCT Security Committee meeting which was presided by the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike in Abuja on Tuesday.

Briefing journalists shortly after the meeting, FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu disclosed that five individuals have been arrested already and thorough investigation is on going about their activities.

According to him: ” This afternoon, we just had a meeting with the Honourable Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, where we had an expanded security meeting, which includes the Chairmen of the Area Councils.

“A lot of issues regarding security were discussed, but mainly we focused on the issue of influx of people into the Federal Capital Territory, especially the Almajiri. A lot of things were discussed about them and way forward. The Minister, at the end of the meeting agreed, or rather directed a committee is set up by us, and then he awaits the outcome of it in two weeks.

“But meanwhile we want to enjoin all residents of the Federal Capital Territory to be security conscious, and then take note of any new person coming into their areas. Influx of people into the Federal Capital Territory, and report immediately to the appropriate authorities. We need to profile people coming into our environment, we need to know them, because recently some arrests have been made of persons who are of security risk to the Federal Capital Territory.

“As I speak with you, we are working on them. It’s still at the intelligence level. We will give you feedback immediately when we finish the investigations on them.

“Our Committee is going to work with Area Council Chairmen for them to identify schools where these children are being brought in to learn, to profile those organizing these schools, to have the pictures, full numbers of people organizing these groups, and for them to work out means of working with them in the future. Also, to probably to find out what the government can do to ensure that they are kept in check, and to find out the content of the training they are giving these students in their various schools.”
