FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has expressed his displeasure over the pace of work being carry out by a contractor on the rehabilitation and expansion of the outer Southern Expressway in Gudu District in Abuja.
Wike made his observation known during his visit to the aforementioned road project being handled by CGC Nigeria Limited, a Chinese construction company on Friday, saying that his administration has no relationship with non- performing contractors.
He warned that any incompetent contractor handling FCT projects would be sacked and made to pay for wasting the Administration’s time and money.
His words: “We don’t have any relationship with non-performing contractors. Of course, any body knows our position -that if you don’t perform, we kick you out. There is no sentiments about it -whether you are indigenous contractor or foreign contractor, we don’t care, all we are concerned about is the work.”
“If you do the work, we go along with you, if you don’t do the work, we kick you out, and we make you to pay for it. And there will be sanctions. You can’t just collect our money and think that we will just ask you to go, No. When we kick you out, we make you pay for it”, he warned.
Responding to a question on his impression of the work done, Wike stated it was very bad; adding that he was not encouraged, and however, noted that though CGC was a respected company, its handling of the OSEX project fell short of expectation.
Wike tackled the contractor for quickly moving equipment to site after learning of his planed inspection visit; warning he would not accept such practices.
The Minister, while stressing the importance of the project, stated that it would further boost economic activities and resolve traffic congestion on that axis.
He vowed that he would sustain routine inspection of projects instead of reading reports on progress of ongoing projects from files.
