Ad-hoc committee set up by the House of RepresentativesĀ to oversight the activities in Rivers State has invited the Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, to appear before it Thursday for an interactive session on the affairs of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi.
The decision, according to the statement, followed the resolution of the National Assembly approving the presidential proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
The meeting also followed the formal inauguration of the 21-member committee by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas on Tuesday.
The House maintained that its decision was based on its constitutional mandate to exercise full legislative oversight in accordance with Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The statement disclosed that a formal letter of invitation had since been sent and acknowledged accordingly, adding that the statement served to reinforce transparency in the committee’s proceedings.
The committee also reiterated its commitment to fulfill its duties with diligence, transparency and strict adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
