Benjamin Amodu, a professor of phytomedicine from the Triune Biblical University, USA, has warned that increase in cancer cases especially childhood and liver cancers in Nigeria is very alarming. He disclosed this while speaking to this reporter on Friday, February 21.
“The increasing cases of childhood and liver cancers is very much alarming. You see, because many of these children do not yet know what is actually happening and can’t take care of themselves, the parents must be very observant to detect it early since early detection increases the chances of survival.
“Also, pregnant mothers must be very careful of what they consume, be they medications, hard drugs and even cosmetics, as the exposure to harmful chemicals either as a fetus or early childhood have been found to increase the risk factors for cancer, chronic kidney disease, and other chronic diseases in children.Recently I did a podcast on NTA, warning couples about the existence of stomach ulcer all over the world coupled with hormonal imbalance which partners have in their families and have in most cases remained untreated and this can be transmitted to offspring genetically.
“It will shock you that as I speak to you now, I have over 40 liver cancer patients – no any other cancer, but cancer of the liver which is strange. Within just a month, we are already having 40 patients for the same disease?
“So we should also try to find out the reason for this sudden increase in a cancer that before now has been uncommon. Should we re-appraise our lifestyle, what we consume and so on, or does it go beyond that? Do you know that it costs about $2.5million to treat liver cancer abroad? “But this research we did into cancer cure, US scientists from the University of Texas came here about fifteen years ago, took samples away, and validated our cure in their own laboratories.
In fact, they discovered that our herbal medications could cure more than we knew. For instance, they were the ones who discovered that out cure for bronchial cancer which we have used to cure a stage 4 patient there in the US has over 90% efficacy for the cure of asthma. When the Stage 4 cancer patient was cured, they were surprised because they thought that was already a point of no return.“So the good news is that we have a cure for all these diseases here in Nigeria, so patients must not travel abroad to get cure.
He then called on Nigerians to go for periodic chuck-ups instead of waiting until they are down as the chances of proper management and cure is usually high for any ailment when discovered early.
According to the World Health Organisation, WHO, an estimated 400,000 children and adolescents aged zero to 19 years develop cancer globally each year.
The organisation also said that unlike many adult cancers, most childhood cancers have no known cause and are not linked to lifestyle or environmental factors. In Nigeria, the exact prevalence of childhood cancer remains unclear due to poor data collection. However, the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH Cancer Centre houses the country’s first Childhood Population-Based Cancer Registry, which has recorded 237 cases in just over a year.
