House of Representative has mandated its Committee on Army, Defense and National Security to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire incident at Giwa Barracks armory in Borno State and report back within four weeks for further legislative action.
The lawmakers also called for measures to strengthen security operations in Borno and Yobe States, in order to protect military personnel along with civilians in those states.
These resolutions were adopted yesterday in a motion of urgent public importance moved during plenary by . Satomi Ahmad.
In his lead debate, the lawmaker noted the recent fire incident at the armory of 127 Battalion, Giwa Barracks in Borno State, even as he expressed deep concern over the escalating attacks on military formations in Borno and Yobe.
Satomi informed his colleagues that Boko Haram had escalated their attacks on several military formations in recent months, lamenting that several soldiers and civilians had been killed in such reckless attacks.
According to the lawmaker, “Several military baracks have been attack consistently by the dreaded Boko Haram including surrounding civilian settlements who are also living in perpetual fear.
“The recent surge in Boko Haram attacks on military formations is deeply alarming, and also the bravery and sacrifices of our military personnel are being tested by these relentless assault.”
