Following her failure to honour parliament’s invitation on issues relating to budget, the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Area Councils and Ancillary Matters has summoned the Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Bunkure, to appear before it  today (Tuesday).

The summon was pronounced by the Chairman of the committee, Fredrick Agbedi, during an interactive meeting yesterday with some agencies under the minister of state’s supervision, at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

Declaring the meeting open, Agbedi reminded the lawmakers of President Bola Tinubu’s appeal  to expedite action on the budget consideration and passage, even as he also decried the absence of  minister at the meeting.

The committee  threatened that the House would not fail to invoke its parliamentary powers against the minister if she fails to appear by as directed.

He explained that the minister was duly invited and notified of the meeting together with the agencies under her supervision.

“As a committee, we touch on the fabrics of the people of the FCT,” he said.

Some members of the committee who spoke during the meeting described the minister’s absence as an affront on the committee, as well as  parliament.

They threatened to invoke their constitutional powers to ensure strict  compliance with constitutional provisions.
