Reps: Speaker, Deputy Felicitate With Muslims

Paul Effiong, Abuja

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and his Deputy, Ahmed Wase have congratulated Nigerian Muslims for marking the new Islamic Year, 1444 AH.

Gbajabiamila and Wase said ushering in the new Islamic year is significant in the life of every Muslim and it calls for sober reflection and re-dedication to the service of the Almighty Allah.

The two leaders in separate press statements issued by their Special Assistants on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi and Umar Muhammed Puma, respectively, noted that Muslims should use the new year to pray for peace and unity, especially in the face of the challenges facing the nation.

Wase specifically reminded Muslims of the need to pray fervently for the peaceful conduct of the 2023 general elections, advising them to continue to be their brother’s keeper and pray for a decisive end to banditry, kidnapping, terrorism and other crimes.

The deputy speaker urged Muslims to imbibe the spirit of humility, as demonstrated by the life and times of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW), adding that the virtues of service and exemplary leadership as demonstrated by the Holy Prophet should guide both leaders and followers on the need to give their all in the overall interest of the nation.

“As we enter into the new year, I urge us to continue to pray for the nation, especially at this trying time and to reappraise our commitment to the unity and progress of the country,” Wase emphasized.

He also called on Muslims all over the world to imbibe the good virtues of Islam, which he said can propel nations toward rapid growth and development.
