House of Representatives is set to address the plight of pensioners.

To this end, it has urged the federal government through the Federal Ministry of Finance, allied establishments, Humanitarian Services, Accountant- General, CBN, PTAD and relevant agencies to immediately implement the approved pension increments acrueing to retirees without further delay.

The lawmakers also directed the federal government to immediately release all withheld palliative measures to pensioners, as well as ensure timely disbursement to alleviate their suffering.

This followed a resolution adopted during yesterday’s plenary in a motion moved by Ibrahim Ayokunle.

In his lead debate, the lawmaker informed his colleagues of the vital contributions made by pensioners in nation-building, as well as in the development of Nigeria.

The lawmaker reminded the House that President Bola Tinubu had in October 2023, approved a N25,000 wage award as palliative and additional N32,000 pension increase for all federal pensioners.

He, however, lamented the incessant and persistent intractable challenges being faced by pensioners in the country with particular reference to the non-payment of pension increments approved by government and the withholding of essential palliative measures meant to alleviate their hardship.
