An unnamed Senoir official of the Nigeria Custom Service, NCS, yesterday died at the National Assembly Complex while attending an investigative hearing organized by the Public Account Committee, PAC.
The spokesman of the House of Representatives, Hon. Akin Rotimi disclosed this in a press statement which was made available to journalists in Abuja.
The statement explained that the Custom official died at the afternoon while on an official assignment before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts
Several attempts made by the Aljazirah Nigeria to get further details respecting the deseased customers official proved abortive as Hon Rotimi repeatedly declined
He only explained that the former customs personnel died during the engagement with the legislative committee adding that the ugly incident occurred around 1.00pm yesterday being June 25, 2024.
The spokesman of the House in the statement further revealed that the man had some health complications, adding that despite the immediate and diligent efforts of first responders and medical personnel at the National Assembly Clinic, he unfortunately passed away.
The House while comiserating with the family of desease said:“It is with deep sadness and regret that we confirm the passing of an esteemed official of the Nigeria Customs Service who was at the National Assembly for an engagement with a House Committee”.
The House of Representatives stands ready to support efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and is cooperating fully with all relevant authorities to ensure all necessary protocols are followed,” he explained.
The Chairman House Commitee on Media and Public Affairs further used the opportunity to express condolence on behalf of the speaker of the House, Hon. Tajudden Abbas even as he quoted the speaker as saying, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a dedicated public servant. Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time.”
The spokesman equally used the opportunity to ask all to remain calm as further information will be provided to the public in due time.
“We ask for patience and respect for the privacy of the family during this period of mourning. Our sympathies are with his loved ones,” he said.
