House of Representatives Committee on Federal Capital Territory Judiciary yesterday visited some FCT courts.
It urged the judiciary to be effective and efficient in its operations.
Chairman, House Committee on FCT Judiciary, Adamu Gamawa, led other members of the committee on an oversight to the courts.
He said the visit is in line with the constitution which empowers legislators to carryout oversight roles.
Gamawa stated that the visit was not to witch-hunt anybody, but aimed at assessing the condition of the courts and come up with possible ways of addressing the challenges.
He noted that the visit would enable them know the state of some of the ongoing projects.
He said the performance or utilisation of the previous appropriated funds including the 2024 budget would determine what should be provided in the 2025 budget for the FCT judiciary.
Chief Registrar of the High Court of the FCT, Hajiya Hadiza Dodo, solicited the assistance of the committee over what she called pressing and urgent difficulties.
Some of the challenges, according to her, include underfunding of the construction of the High Court complex in Wuse Zone 5, inadequate funding for the construction of magistrates quarters.
She also listed additional courtrooms, inadequate official vehicles among others.(NAN)
