House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Ccapital Territory, FCT, Area Councils and Ancillary Matters yesterday expressed displeasure over inability of the 6 Area Council Chairmen to honor it invitation.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Commitee, Hon Fredrick Agbedi informed that his committee had in two separate invitations letters requested for the appearance of all the council bosses with no positive response.

Hon. Agbedi further informed that despite the fact that there are no other engagements like commissioning of projects in the FCT that would have served as excuses, the Area Council chairmen delibrately ignored the invitation by the Commitee.

He explained that their absence at such crucial meeting showed that they are trying to avoid questions on accountability and transparency about governance.

Some members of.the committee who spoke during the meeting said Chairmen absence is an affront and disrespectful to the legislature and the paliament.

The Commitee had earlier threatened to sanction all the area council chairmen to serve at deterrent to those who may want to take them for granted.

The committee equally cited some relevant sections of the Constitutions that empower its to perform it duties pledging not to delay in innvoking such powers when necessary to bring area council Chairmen to account.

It would be recalled that the Committee had severally invited the 6 FCT Area Council chairmen to look into the 2023 budget performance of the council but to no avail.

The Commitee thereafter in a motion raised by Hon Sada Soli and supported by Hon Doninic Okafor went for a closed door session.
