House of Representatives Committee on Federal Colleges of Education and the National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE, have approved the establishment of 10 new federal colleges of education across the country.
The Committee on NCCE gave the approval for the establishment of the institutions on Tuesday at a public hearing held at the National Assembly in Abuja.
In his address during the hearing, Speaker Tajudeen Abass informed that the establishment of the new institutions will fill the gap in teaching, as well as engagement of teachers in education across Nigeria.
Lamenting the huge gap between teachers and students, the speaker stressed that Nigeria is currently in dire need of educational institutions, as the existing colleges of education are grossly insufficient to serve the growing population.
In his remarks, Chairman of the committee, Adamu Tanko identified education as the bedrock of growing nations and development.
The lawmaker noted that with the input of all stakeholders in the proposed amendment, they have no alternative but to respond as the people’s representatives.
The proposed amendment will provide legislative support for the establishment of institutions in Ijesha, Lagos State, Ibiono, Akwa-Ibom, Akoko Ondo, among other parts of the country.
