From HASSAN JIRGI Damaturu
Emir of Bade and Deputy Chairman, Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Umar Suleiman has appealed to traders to reduce the price of essential goods and consider the plight of the poor.
The emir made the appeal on Sunday in an interview with AljazirahNigeria in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area.
The monarch expressed concern over the continuous rise in food prices which is worsening the economic hardship.
According to him, the devaluation of the naira has created a dire situation for the poor, which he described as a looming calamity.
“I appeal to traders to consider the struggles of the poor and lower food prices. The daily surge in food cost is worsening economic difficulties. Those in control of pricing must take this into account,” he said.
The emir, who noted that the holy month of Ramadan is not a period to increase the prices of commodities, urged wealthy Nigerians to assist the less privileged in this month of Ramadan.
“It is important that highly placed individuals in the society give succour for the less privileged in the society,” he said.
