REDAN President Urges FG, States To Support Housing Sector

The Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) President, Alhaji Aliyu Oroji Wamakko has urged all tiers of government to support the housing sector in order to deliver the much needed affordable houses to Nigerians.
Wamakko stated this yesterday at the ground breaking ceremony of Oakville Homes at Kurudu in Nasarawa state.

He commended the owner of the housing project Mrs Oluwakemi Sijuwade for the laudable housing project, describing her as an agile and formidable member of real estate industry.
He said, We have always been proud of you because of your perverance. We are here today for the ground breaking of ceremony of Oakville Homes a development by Greenland Development Concept Nigeria limited, an idea of Mrs Sijuwade who has been one of our agile and formidable members of real estate industry, we have always been proud of you because of your perverance.''

The real estate developer president called on developers to defend the *integrity* of the assocaition in all their transactions, urging members of the public to always patronise REDAN members in order to get value for *their* money.

According to him, we are sure they will have value for their money and we call on you if you have any problem with whosoever that is a real estate developer to come forward with your receipt and I asuure you that REDAN managment of today will make ensure that you have value for your money.”

He decried the hike in the cost of building materials, especially cement which is the primary product in the housing construction in Nigeria, calling on the federal government to look into into the issue.

“I urge the Federal government to look into what is happening today regarding the high cost of building materials They have a pricing board before, but presently the affordabilty of housing is being (eluded) eroded by the high price of cement and building materials generally. So, we call on governmnet to intervene in as much as we are calling on federal government to see that there is affordable housing, social housing and what have you, we commend the government for the gaint stride but we are still calling on the government to intervene in the price of cement and that willl give us comfort in providing these houses.”

Reacting the Managing Director of Oakville Homes, Mrs Oluwakemi Sijuwade comended all the participants including the Federal Housing Fund , FHF, Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, FMBN, for attending the ground breaking breaking ceremony. She disclosed that the NSITF have appointed the organisation as their development patrner in housing development for its staff.

Festus Adebayo said that women should be supported in affordable housing delivery through governmnet intervention, saying women have alot to contribute in the housing sector.

Family Homes Fund, FHF, Managing Director Femi Oduwale expresssed support for the housing project saying over 30 percent women stayed more at home than men and know more about what a house desired. He congratulated Mrs Sijuwade for her gaint stride as a woman in housing delivery in a male domintaed real estate sector.

On his own part, Housing Advocacy Cordinator Festus Adebayo enjoined the government to give women all the necesary support to thrive in the male dominated housing sector just as he called for robust effort in bridging the housing gap being excerbated by increasing population in the country.
