Coalition of Civil Society for Peace and Security has commanded what it described as professional excellence exhibited by the Nigerian Police Force in its recent recruitment exercises.

The civil society organisations gave the commendation in a press release after an emergency state of the nation meeting in Abuja yesterday.

The statement signed by the general secretary of the coalition, Blessing Alile, called on Police Service Commission, PSC, to desist from unwarranted distraction capable of advancing a process which it said was already in line with global best practices.

“We hereby appeal to Police Service Commission to desist from unnecessary political distraction in recruitment process as the one being powered by Nigeria Police gave opportunity for Ten personnel’s in 774 local government in Nigeria a decision first of its kind in Nigeria recruitment process, introducing National Identity Number for all personnel has been commended,” the statement said.

The CSOS therefore appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to transfer the functions of the PSC to the Police Affairs Ministry, as doing so would eliminate unnecessary distractions.

“We may have no option than to declare national mass action against Police Service
Commission, as demonstration of irreversible commitment to support Nigerian Police professional excellence.

“Issues of national peace must not be murdered at the altar of misguided political and selfish interest,” it warned.
