Ramadan: Clerics Task Muslims On Righteous Living

Date:

Muslim clerics yesterday admonished the faithful to be determined to live  righteously to have eternal life.

The clerics gave the admonition at the Companion’s 12th Annual Ramadan Lecture in Lagos.

The lecture was organised by  Companion Alimosho USRAH Group.

It took place at the Lagos State University Auditorium, Ojo, with the theme, ‘Death, a Unifying Factor: Preparing for the Inevitable Meeting with Our Creator.’

The event featured free medical screening and treatment, including screening for diabetes, prostrate issues, high blood pressure and  HIV.

Eye examinations were also made and patients given free eyeglasses.

Some patients were referred  to medical facilities for further treatment.

Beneficiaries were mostly  women and youths irrespective of their religion.

Justice Abdurraheem Ahmad-Kadi of   Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, who was the guest lecturer, said  righteous living was expected from every Muslim.

According to Ahmad-Kadi, death is a necessary end for everyone.

He urged the people to live daily as if there would be no tomorrow.

“Strive to do good at all times  and love everyone as you love yourself to make a better society where love and care for one another will be supreme.

“Your ability to bring joy and happiness to others should be a legacy you should crave for.

“No matter how long you live, death awaits.  Therefore, explore all avenues to do well while alive for people to give good account of you at the time of reckoning.

“Fear Allah, prepare your will, make it legal to avoid friction in your family,” he said.

Coordinator of Companion Alimosho USRAH Group, Alhaji Kamor Ogunfowora, described death as the inevitable bridge that every soul must cross to meet the creator.

Ogunfowora said  the  topic  was not chosen to scare people, but to make them prepare well to meet the creator.

“As human beings, we often forget that death is a transition to eventual meeting with our creator.

“The question is how prepared are we for the inevitable?

“The holy month of Ramadan is another opportunity which Allah in his infinite mercy has provided to reconnect us with him.

“Let us take advantage of it. Let us use this month to repent, increase our good deeds and seek Allah’s mercy so that when death comes, we will be among the successful,” he said.

In his remarks, the Ogun State Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Professor Mukhtar Abayomi-Adelaja, who was the chairman of the occasion, urged Muslims to live peacefully with others.

He emphasised righteous living and helping the less privileged before, during and after Ramadan. (NAN)
