Member representing Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State on the platform of African Democratic Congress, ADC, Leke Abejide has distanced himself from his party’s plan to support the August 1 nationwide protest.

Abejide, who disclosed this in Abuja while briefing journalists on the state of the nation, said his party knows him to be a grassroots politician.

He explained that his party’s leadership did not consult him before issuing the statement on its stance on the proposed planned nationwide protest.

He warned that if the protest is carried out, it might lead to chaos and a state of lawlessness in the country.

While calling on Nigerians to support the President Bola Tinubu-led government to make the country great again, the lawmaker reeled out the achievements of the government so far, citing the current reduction of electricity tariff from N216 to N68 per kilowatt.

Abejide vowed to dump his political party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, if there are plans to get him frustrated.

Speaking on the theme, ‘Need to Rally Behind President Tinubu’s Transformative Strides,’ he noted that despite inheriting an economically shaky foundation from previous administrations, the current administration had executed some landmark projects, pleading for ample time to reshape the country.

On the power sector, Abejide said “liberalisation of the power sector  through the 2023 Electricity Bill has paved the way for decentralised electricity generation, transmission

and distribution across the country.”

He, however, observed that constituency projects, as well as other measures recently released to all state governments were among the major steps taken to address hardship in Nigeria.
