…Call for constitution review
The only panacea for politicians and political leaders to shun all manners of corruption while in office is for them to be subjected to Oath taking by Traditional deities
This is the only way to effectively tackle corruption and corrupt practices among political office holders.
The Lowa Adimula of Ile-Ife, His Royal Majesty, High Chief Abraham Adekola Adeyeye stated while speaking with newsmen at his traditional home in Ile-Ile in Osun State.
He said by using deities to administer oath of office to political office holders and those in high places of authority the rate of stealing public funds will reduced to the barest minimum and will help to address corruption and sharp practices among politicians .
Lowa Adimula said politicians especially political office holders and those in places of authority in government to should be accountable to the people that have been elected them
“They must be compelled to take Oath through used of “Sango” and other traditional deities.
The Ile-Ife high Chief who call for urgent Constitution review disclosed that Nigeria need a constitution that allows the use of Sango” among other traditional deities to be apply in place of Bible and Koran’ in taking Oath during swearing in of any political leader ,president, Governors members of National and State Assemblies amongst others.
He said politician are not afraid of the Bible and Koran which they usually used to take oath on their swearing day saying this is because they believed nothing will happened to them but if they are subjected to be using traditional deities to take oath of office knowing fully well that they can get instant judgement when the steal public funds ,they change and be accountable to those they ought to serve .
According to the High Chief who blamed the current suffering of Nigerians on corruption by mostly those elected to serve them hinted that it is hard time for them to-rewrite the present 1999 Constitution being operated upon.
His words ” I am using this medium to call on president Bola Ahmed Tinubu led federal Government to see the best way to review the present Constitution the country is operating with because there is a lot of lapses that needed to be corrected.
“The present Constitution did not due recognition and respect to the traditional institutions. How can a traditional Ruler answerable to a local government chairman which suppose be his son or subject. How can a traditional Ruler be remove by Council Chairman ? This is complete aberration which must be corrected in new constitution. Traditional Rulers are custodian of the custom and tradition of the people and as such should be well recognised in all ramifications.
“I am appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to kindly look into the role of traditional institutions in Nigeria and give them necessary recognition and respect they deserved. He added that Ile-Ife being the home of Yoruba land has not fell any Federal Government presence in many area of developments and infrastructures.
“The President is a Yoruba man, he should lias with His Imperial Majesty Ooni of Ile-Ife and Arole Oduduwa Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi to see how more development can come to Ife Land. Governor Ademola Adeleke has been doing a wonderful job on areas of infrastructure which is first of its kind in history of Ile-Ife and entire Osun State.
“We appreciate various ongoing development projects embarked upon by the present administration in the state hoping that federal government will come to the aid of Ife community by bringing some infrastructures capable of developing Ife land.
While hailing the Autonomy granted by the supreme court to Local government said such will help bring development to the grassroots , Adimula charged the electorates to vote out non performing leaders and shun money inducement during voting exercise.
He lamented that some politicians has been using money to induce electorates and after they assumed office they abandoned urging to vote those with have character
On the issue of hunger protests going on in most parts of the country, the traditional Chief said it is difficult to fixed market price of commodities for the market simply because of hike in transportation cost.
