From Henry Ibya, Makurdi
Benue State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to restore peace in the state, particularly in areas plagued by herder-farmer conflicts.
Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, made the assurance during a briefing with tactical commanders deployed to curtail the conflict in Yogbo, Guma Local Government Area, where cattle rustlers had attempted to rustle cattle on June 2.
CP Ifeanyi, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, yesterday in Makurdi, ordered the Area Commander Makurdi and Divisional Police Officer, Daudu, to work closely with tactical commanders to ensure the safety of lives and property in the area while investigations are ongoing.
The CP also warned against lawlessness, particularly mob actions against suspected criminals, describing such behavior as “cruel and uncivilized.”
The police chief urged citizens to maintain law and order and collaborate with the police to identify and apprehend criminals causing mayhem in the state.
He also warned that those engaging in mob actions would face the full wrath of the law if arrested.
