Ebonyi State Police Command has recovered exhibits linked to the recent killings at Amagu Nkalaha community in Ishielu Local Government Area.
The attack, which occured on Sunday, February 2, claimed the lives of 16 villagers with property worth millions of naira razed.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, the command had dispatched a tactical team from the command who apprehended the perpetrator.
“The Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche-Anya dispatched a tactical team to fish out the perpetrators,” the statement said.
It added that during their operation, one of the suspects identified as Maduabuchi Chimaobi Ebeh, while fleeing the community, was apprehended with the assistance of members of Nkalaha at the community’s border with Eha-amafu, and was handed over to Isi-Uzo Division.
Upon interrogation, the suspect provided the names of others involved in the attack.
Based on the information, operatives stormed the hideout of the hoodlums responsible for the attack.
“When they raided the criminal hideout, other assailants fled the scene.
“However, the following items were recovered: three locally made single-barrel guns, one police uniform, a pair of jungle boots, a pair of army camouflage shorts and a pair of combat trousers.
“The command is actively pursuing the fleeing suspects and will continue our investigation into this matter. We encourage anyone with useful information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.
“We are using this medium to encourage all to dispel rumours of insecurity and go about their lawful activities. Furthermore, we reiterate our firm resolve to apprehend the hoodlums and assure the residents of Ebonyi State of our commitment to the protection of lives and property,” the statement disclosed.
