PDP Zonal Vice Chairman Congratulates Anyanwu, Hails S’Court Ruling

Date:

From CHARLES ONYEKWERE

National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, South East Zone, Chidiebere  Egwu has congratulated the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu over his victory at the Supreme Court.

Egwu also expressed satisfaction with the uprightness of the justices of the Supreme Court for upholding the constitution of the party, as well as the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The apex court had yesterday affirmed Senator  Anyanwu as the authentic National Secretary of the PDP which has put to rest the prolonged legal battle over the secretaryship of the party.

In a statement issued yesterday after the judgement, Egwu stated that “this ruling is a good omen for Nigeria’s democracy, it is a ruling that has restored hope to millions of members of the PDP across Nigeria.

“This ruling  is a clear signal that political desperation and inordinate ambition cannot take anyone far.”

He called on the national secretary to join hands with other stakeholders and leaders of the PDP in the South East to recall those who left the party due to the high-handedness of the expelled Zonal Chairman, Chief Ali Odefa.

Egwu also stated that he would join hands with the national secretary and  leaders of the party to ensure that all outstanding issues, especially the outstanding state congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States are conducted within the shortest possible time.

Lamenting that due to greed and the selfish leadership of  Odefa, the PDP could not attract anyone to buy governorship forms in Anambra State for fear of the unknown.

He said, “our immediate task now as leaders of the PDP in the South East is to ensure that state congresses are conducted in Ebonyi and Anambra States.

“You can see that both states are suffering in the PDP and that is why no one bought form for the forthcoming November  governorship election in Anambra State, with this ruling, valid congresses can now be conducted in those two states.”

It would be recalled that he (Egwu)was nominated by stakeholders of the PDP in Ebonyi State to replace  Odefa after the latter was suspended from his ward in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Egwu noted that the nomination was subsequently ratified by South-East  stakeholders of the party on January 12.

Odefa was later expelled after a disciplinary committee of the party found him culpable of anti-party activities and subsequently recommended his expulsion. His expulsion was  upheld by the Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki on Wednesday, February 26.
