PDP Frowns At Ayade’s Industrial Court Threat Mandating Labour To Call-off Strike

… Boast of winning Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency By-Election

By Francis Ogar, Calabar

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State said it viewed Governor Ben Ayade’s court action threatening Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Cross River Chapter, to call workers to go back to work and suspend the ongoing four weeks industrial war as a big insolence to the people.

The State Secretary of PDP, Mr. Anthony Edako who spoke with our reporter in a telephone chat while reacting to the call by the State Governor calling for the suspension of the strike.

Mr. Anthony Edakor said PDP was solidly behind the strike and that as a representative of the people and a platform in which people express their view, it considered the threat as insolence to the people.

His words: “This is a regime that has been in office for over six years and no one person has been paid his gratuity. These retired civil servants are senior citizens who have sacrificed 35 years of their most active part in the service of the State and at the end, the Governor has the temerity to insolently the NLC to suspend the strike action”.

“They deserved to be paid and PDP as a party has the interest of the people at heart and is solidly behind the strike. The Governor was in jamboree in France recently with 37 persons and claiming that he has no money to pay gratuity but freezing in Casino”

“Civil Servants are dying in hunger, some in disease and Ayade was in Paris

destroying the Civil service so that he can have access to the State’s fund”.

Continuing he said “In a civilized society, Ayade should be sent to jail. It is an error granting Ayade immunity. It is criminal and he has broken the contract terms he had with his people without financial implementation”

“Cross River has become a beggar State and has become a vision circle in poverty, PDP had wished that if there was any way it could convince the regulatory authority INEC to put the election tomorrow because of the one and half years left for Ayade was enough to cause more damage in the rascally regime”.

“We are ready and set for the fight. We are on the ground. We appeal to our people to be firm and resolute for their redemption is at sight.”

In a related development, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said that it was optimistic of WinningOgoja/YalaFederalConstituencyByElections maintaining that the party was still consolidated in Cross River State and that it will still win all elections in the State.

Prince Mike Oyesi, State Publicity Secretary of the party gave the assurance in an interview with our correspondent at the party secretariat in Calabar.

He said that as far as he was concerned PDP has no fear in the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency By-Election coming up soon to replace Agom Jarigbe Agom who is now in the Red chambers.

Hear him “PDP is going to win the election. That has been the business that we do every day. We are sure and convinced that we will win the elections”.

On whether the party will give the Ogoja/Yala House of Representative ticket to woman or man, the publicity secretary explained that the party has been talking of gender friendly but noted that the party wants to democrat politics now and whoever wins will be the flag bearer.

Speaking further, Prince Oyesi said that the ticket or flag bearer is automatically for the Yala constituency since a senator is now in Ogoja Constituency.

According to him, it is proper, for justice, fair play and equity to give the seat of house representative to Yala. And that has been our understanding he stressed.

“For now we have not called for nomination forms and since we have not started assembling their names I cannot give you the number of people in the race but even if it is one person in the race we are assured that we will win.”

PDP alleged that the Governor who defected from the party to the All Progressive Congress (APC) recently stole all the party equipment from their former secretariat.

“You can see there is no chair, no table and no document. We are standing conducting this interview. We have challenged Ayade for our mandate in Abuja High Court.

“We gave him success, we gave him our mandate and it is unconstitutional to leave a political party that gave you mandate to another political party without resignation”

“Ayade and his deputy must resign first. We must get our mandate. PDP must defeat him. Agom Jarigbe Agom who was in the Federal House of Representatives, defeated Ayade, a governor, to the Supreme Court. Ayade will suffer the same defeat in the Federal House of representation by-election”
