One person was killed and another injured in an explosion that occurred Monday afternoon at a bus-stop along  Mararaba-Nyanya expressway in Abuja.

According to a statement released by the Nigerian Army, the explosion occurred at the bus stop opposite  Mogadishu Cantonment in Asokoro.

The army did not give details of the incident but added that the situation is under control.

The army in a post on its verified X handle wrote: “BREAKING NEWS, explosion at bus stop opposite Mogadishu Cantonment in Abuja. Situation under control, details later….”

The explosion, suspected to have been triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, killed one person and injured one other.

A military source who did not give his name said the man, believed to be a suicide bomber, was killed by an explosive contained in a rubber can close to Mogadishu Barrack in Abuja

However, military authorities present at the scene said the situation could be an explosion from a phone device and not IED.

Personnel of the military, Department of State Service, DSS, police and officers of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, were deployed to the scene of the incident.
