Abiodun Vows To Sustain Infrastructural Transformation In Ogun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured residents of the State of his administration’s determination to sustain the present tempo of infrastructural development across the State.

The Governor made the pledge while commissioning a newly constructed hospital road in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government on Tuesday, as he promised the people of the area of more projects to enhance economic development.

He said that his administration has constructed over 600 kilometres of road across the state in the last five years, adding that more roads would be commissioned at Iperu and Ilaro during the week.

According to the governor, the Ogijo community is one of the industrial areas of the state as it enjoys gas reticulation, stating that his administration has solved the electricity challenges that affected the community for decades through the provision of transformers and other electric accessories.

Abiodun noted that constructing the road was in keeping with his promise when he visited the area about a year ago, saying despite the difficulty faced by the contractors in the course of construction, they were able to surmount and deliver the project on time.

Road infrastructure, the Governor said, is one of the key catalysts that engendered development, positing that the commissioned road would boost commercial activities in the area as it leads to several communities.

“This community is very important to us, apart from being a border town, it is also an industrial area. I can assure you that this community will experience more development. I call on the Kabiyesi to work with the local government chairman, community development associations, and all relevant stakeholders and come up with projects according to their priority for immediate execution”, he said.

While emphasizing that his administration would not make empty promises, the governor said the event was to kickstart a series of projects commissioning to mark the first year of his second term in office.

He thanked traditional rulers and the people of the area for their unalloyed support to his government, assuring that uncompleted projects that would add value to the people would be completed just as no part of the state would be developed to the detriment of others.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya said the commissioning of the Hospital Road is a testimony to the commitment of the state government at ensuring infrastructural development in all parts of the state.

The Commissioner assured that more roads would be constructed and commissioned by the governor, noting that roads infrastructure engender socio-economic development.

Chairman of Sagamu Local Government Area, Mr. Afolabi Odulate, said the construction of the road was one of the demands he made to the governor concerning the area, noting that his administration has supported the state government with the construction of several roads in communities across the council area.

NFF, Super Eagles Discredit Online Report Of Unpaid Bonuses And Allowances

Joel Ajayi

Nigeria Football Federation and players of the Super Eagles have lambasted a report in an online publication, which claimed that players of the team have not been paid from monies given by the Presidency to the NFF to offset their bonuses and allowances.

The Presidency had, late last year, and following a process supported and personally followed-through by the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, released monies to the NFF for payment of outstanding bonuses and allowances of players and officials of the various National Teams.

However, the said online publication on Monday put together what a senior administrative official of the Super Eagles described as “tissues of lies” and challenged the writer to come forward with evidence of his claims.

“The report is absolutely false, in every ramification, and we challenge the owner of the website and writer to come forward with proof of the claims. We want him to name the players who spoke to him, because these are all tissues of lies.

“Players and officials of the Super Eagles have been paid for all matches played at the AFCON, yet he claimed the team was paid for only three matches. His outlandish claim of the team being owed for 25 matches is the biggest lie ever concocted by any writer.”

The writer also falsely claimed that only members of the NFF Board and staff of the Secretariat have been paid their outstanding allowances from the government money.

“This story is a shame. No player of the Super Eagles spoke to the writer. It is all pure fabrication”, a senior player said.

Another senior official of the Super Eagles added: “The story is absolute bunkum. People should make an effort to verify whatever they hear from anywhere before going to the press. It is clear that this writer did not even hear anything; he simply brought forth something from his own imagination”.

Unhealthy Menstrual Hygiene, Cause Of Infertility

0

There is a reason why sanitary pads come in multiple covers. Using unclean pads can lead to fungal, reproductive tract and urinary infections. It can even make a woman vulnerable to infertility, Blessing Otobong-Gabriel writes.

Good menstrual hygiene plays a fundamental role in enabling women and girls to reach their full potentials.

Menstrual health and hygiene is essential to the well-being and empowerment of women and adolescent girls. On any given day, more than 300 million women worldwide are menstruating.

In total, an estimated 500 million women and girls lack access to menstrual products and adequate facilities for menstrual management. To effectively manage their menstruation, girls and women require access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH, facilities, affordable and appropriate menstrual materials, information on good practices and a supportive environment where they can manage menstruation without embarrassment or stigma.

The negative impact of lack of good menstrual health and hygiene cut across sectors. The World Bank had taken a multi-sectoral and holistic approach to improve menstrual hygiene in its operations across the world.

Secondary infertility refers to couples who are unable to conceive after a year of unprotected intercourse after a previous pregnancy.

Globally, approximately, 10-15 percent of couples are infertile.

A number of factors have been identified as causing infertility. The most common causes are Reproductive Tract Infections, RTIs. Upper RTIs in women result in serious consequences such as pelvic inflammatory disease and adhesions, resulting in infertility.

Unhygienic practices during menstruation have been reported including the use of unhygienic materials for the absorption of blood and altered bathing practices. In a study, 26 percent of women reported bathing less frequently and used unhygienic materials to absorb the menstrual flow.

A study reported that only 5.2 percent of females use sanitary pads and 77 percent use old pieces of clothes, while others use a combination of the two.

Another study also showed that 80 percent of females re-use the same cloth for the absorption of blood and 42 percent of them dried the cloth under sun before re-use. The study further reported that, at times, the material was washed in hidden places and not sun-dried.

Clothes dried in hidden places often remain damp, which may give rise to microbial growth and insect larvae, such practices might result in foul-smelling vaginal discharge.

Similarly, unhygienic practices during postpartum might result in RTIs. Various studies reported insertion of herbal medicine inside the vagina or uterus during and washing of the perineum with unsafe material, thereby aiding the transmission of micro-organisms into the upper reproductive tract, leading to pelvic inflammatory diseases, culminating in adhesions and infertility.

According to WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme 2012, menstrual hygiene is when women and adolescent girls use clean items to absorb or collect menstrual blood, which can be changed in privacy as often as necessary, using soap and water to wash the body as required, and having access to safe and convenient facilities to dispose the used items. They understand the basic facts linked to menstrual cycle and how to manage it with dignity and without discomfort or fear.

The challenges that menstruating girls and women face are more than basic lack of supplies or infrastructure. While menstruation is a normal and healthy part of life for most women and girls, in many societies, the experience is constrained by cultural taboos and discriminatory social norms.

The resulting lack of information about menstruation leads to unhygienic and unhealthy menstrual practices and creates misconceptions and negative attitudes, which often leads to shaming, bullying and even gender-based violence. For generations of girls and women, poor menstrual health and hygiene is exacerbating social and economic inequalities, negatively impacting their education, health, safety and human development.

Women suffer due to their ignorance on hygiene during menstruation.

Hygiene‑related practices during menstruation are of considerable importance, as it has a health impact in terms of increased vulnerability to reproductive tract infections.

Menstrual hygiene is an issue that is insufficiently acknowledged and has not received adequate attention over the years.

Lack of menstrual hygiene among adolescents is alarming and there is the need for policies and awareness programmes to be initiated.

It has become a taboo that many women in Nigeria feel uncomfortable discussing it in public.

Naturally, topics that are excluded from public talks are likely to be discarded. This is compounded by gender inequality which excludes women and girls from decision-making processes.

Also in the interplay of socio-economic status, menstrual hygiene practices and RTIs are noticeable. Today, millions of women suffer from RTIs and its complications, and often the infection is transmitted to the offspring of a pregnant mother.

RTIs have become a silent epidemic that devastate women’s lives and are closely interrelated to poor menstrual hygiene.

Similarly, the use of rags and old clothes is a rule rather than exception in rural areas in Nigeria. Unclean rags and old clothes increase the chances of RTIs including urinary, vaginal and perineal infection. Very often, serious infections are left untreated and may sometimes lead to potentially fatal toxic shock syndrome.

Untreated RTIs are responsible for 10-15 percent of fetal wastage and 30-50 percent of prenatal infection. Increasingly, they are also linked with the incidence of cervical cancer, HIV/AIDS, infertility, ectopic pregnancy and a myriad of other symptoms.

Women who have better knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene and safe practices are less vulnerable to RTI and its consequences.

Therefore, increased knowledge about menstruation right from childhood may escalate safe practices and help in mitigating the suffering of millions of women.

The first step is raising awareness, hygiene education and promotion, provision of affordable and accessible products and facilities, and waste management.

According to the World Health Organisation, WHO, menstruation is the process in which the uterus sheds blood and tissue through the vagina. Menarche is the onset of menstruation and is often considered the central event of puberty, which usually starts at between 11 and 14 years.

Although the term relates to a biological occurrence in the body of adolescent girls, its significance as a sign of reproductive potential signifies a transition from girlhood to womanhood.

Consequently, the change frequently necessitates social and psychological adjustment.

Adolescence is the age from 10 to 19 years of one’s life. Adolescent girls often do not receive special puberty education about menstrual health and hygiene because of cultural practices that lead to incorrect and unhealthy behavior, such girls are considered naive in their orientation toward menstrual knowledge and thus are prone to misleading guidance.

Even though menstruation is a normal biological process, sometimes adolescents are unable to manage their menstruation when they are in school. It causes girls to miss classes on average three days every month.

Studies in some countries showed that the magnitude of menstrual management problems is higher in adolescent girls living in rural areas.

CEO of Period Reality, Marlou Cornelissen, while giving an overview of the male and female cycle during a sensitisation event on menstrual hygiene management for secondary school girls and female corps members in Bauchi State, lamented that people assume that only women in rural areas are ignorant of menstrual hygiene.

Cornelissen said “We discovered that even urban dwellers have the same problem. Therefore, there is the need to open discussions on the issue of menstrual hygiene.”

0

President of National Union of Local Government Employees , NULGE,  Comrade Ambali Olatunji has commended Ekiti State Government for adhering to the constitutional provision of local government autonomy in the state.

Speaking on Channels Television’s programme, The Morning Brief yesterday, Comrade Olatunji, who criticised state governments for flouting the local government autonomy law, however cited Ekiti State as one of the three states that have followed the due process for local government autonomy.

He identified Rivers and Jigawa as two other states that have also complied with the constitutional provision.

The NULGE President who flayed what he described as flagrant disregard for the local government autonomy, by state government, alleged that many states have continued to deny the third tier of government democratic governance through the use of Caretaker committees or sole administrator as against elected officials, adding that many of them have also not complied with the financial independence aspect of the autonomy, through unwholesome practices that slow down growth and development at the third tier government.

When asked by the moderator to mention names of the states that are disregarding the local government autonomy law and who are in the habit of crediting and withdrawing money from the local government account, Comrade Olatunji said only the three states- Ekiti, Jigawa and Rivers have complied with the law.

“Only three states are complying “mutantis mutandis with the provisions of the constitution -Ekiti, Jigawa and Rivers. These are the states that stand above board in the issue of local government autonomy”, he added.

Jimoh Ibrahim Withdraws Suit Against APC, Aiyedatiwa, INEC

Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim has withdrawn the suit filed challenging the emergence of Gov Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the All Progressives Congress ,APC, candidate for the Nov. 16 governorship election in Ondo State.

It would be recalled that the senator had after the conduct of the party’s governorship primary held on April 20, alleged irregularities and no election in the 18 local government areas of the state.

At a news conference in Abuja yesterday, Ibrahim attributed withdrawal of the suit to series of interventions made by President Bola Tinubu on phone and physical meeting held with him at the Villa.

He said that the litigation was not about him, but for the sole purpose of ensuring internal party democracy, which he said was lacking in the APC governorship primary election.

Ibrahim said : ” The suit is now withdrawn due to the intervention of President Tinubu.

Obasanjo knocks 3 Govt Policies, Says 2 Wrongly Implemented

… proposed 25-year development agenda

Segun Ayinde, Abeokuta

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has bemoaned two out of three policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration saying the two were compulsory, but wrongly implemented

He equally proposed a 25 years socio-economic development agenda that will be generally agreed to by the nation of all political parties and passed into law by the National Assembly with State Assembly aspects also passed into law by the State Houses of Assembly.

Obasanjo in a statement made by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi on Sunday, stated that the third decision was the position in dealing with the coup in Niger.

He made this remark at a Colloquium: “Nigeria’s Development: Navigating the Way Out of the Current Economic Crisis and Insecurity” delivered at the Paul Aje Colloquium (tPAC) in Abuja, at the weekend.

Obasanjo also took a swipe at those against his position on much touted refurbished refinery at Port Harcourt, Rivers State, describing them as “sycophants and spin doctors”.

He declared that such people failed to remember that the attempt that was made in 2007 to partly privatise the refineries was made by him after a thorough study of the situation, hence his knowledge and better understanding of the situation before making his decision late last year.

On what could be described as his position on 365 days of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, the former president also posited ways out of the situation in the country, including a 25-year development agenda.

“Today, government has taken three decisions, two of which are necessary but wrongly implemented and have led to impoverisation of the economy and of Nigerians. These are removal of subsidy, closing the gap between black market and official rates of exchange and the third is dealing with military coup in Niger Republic.

“The way forward is production and productivity which belief and trust in government leadership will engender. No short cut to economic progress but hard work and sweat.”

To him, “Economy does not obey orders, not even military orders. I know that. If we get it right, in two years, we will begin to see the light beyond the tunnel. It requires a change of characteristics, attributes and attitude by the leadership at all levels to gain the
confidence and trust of investors who have alternatives.

He goes further, “Total Energy has gone to invest 6 billion dollars in Angola instead of Nigeria. If the truth must be stated, the present Administration has not found the right way to handle the economy to engender confidence and trust for investors to start trooping in.

“They know us more than we know ourselves. And now they are laughing at us, not taking us seriously. We have to present ourselves in such a way that we will be taken seriously. If the existing investors are disinvesting and going out of our country, how do we persuade new investors to rush in. We can be serious if we choose to be but we need to change from transactional leadership in government to transformational and genuine servant leadership.

“With change by us, the investors will give us benefit of doubt, and security being taken care of on sustainable long-term basis, they will start to test the water. With the right economic policies, attribute of integrity and honesty of purpose, all should be well with all hands on deck and government become a catalyst for development, growth and progress.

To conclude on the economy, “tinkering with exchange rate is not the answer. The answer is consistency and continuity in policy to ensure stability and predictability. That way, we will be sure of incentivizing domestic and foreign investment. There must be honesty and transparency in government dealings and contracts and not lying with deception about these issues. When government is seen as pursuing the right policy, the private sector will go for production and productivity.”

“Change is possible but it must begin with the leadership”.

The former President reaction to the refinery issue was coming barely six months after that the claim that the refinery would begin operation in January. He noted that to get out of the current situation of the country, the government and the governed needed to look at the past and the present, and asked: How do we get here?.

“Looking at the topic of today’s occasion, the question I would ask is, how do we navigate our way out of these crises and pave the path towards a more secure and prosperous Nigeria? I believe the answer
to this requires a multi-faceted approach that addresses the root causes of these challenges. The central questions are: where were we? And how did we get to where we are today.

According to Obasanjo: “Firstly, we must know where we are coming from. Our economy has consistently suffered from poor policies, lack of long-term sustainable policies, discontinuity, adhocry and corruption firmed on personal greed, avarice, incompetence, lack of knowledge and understanding and lack of patriotism.

“For instance, the statement and proposed actions given forty-five years ago to stop fuel scarcity is the same statement and action being touted today. I recall when I made the statement that the refineries will not work, the sycophants and spin doctors of this current administration went out to castigate me as not being a petroleum engineer and that I did not know what I
was talking about.

“They forgot that the attempt that was made in 2007 to partly privatise the refineries was made by me after a thorough study of the situation. But the decision was reversed by my successor and the 750 million dollars paid was refunded.”

On a way out, the former President disclosed that the country needed “a 25-year socio-economic development agenda that will be generally agreed to, by the nation of all political parties and passed into law by the National Assembly with State Assembly aspects also passed into law by the State Houses of Assembly. We take up the implementation on five-year basis. In reality, that plan will have the effect of almost a Constitution. The first priority in the implementation will be education for all.”

The second should be food and nutrition security through agribusiness. The third should be energy for all. The fourth should be industrialization and manufacturing. And the fifth should be science, technology, innovation and Artificial Intelligence, AI.

In all these, government should provide conducive environment for private sector to operate and thrive. And where government will be involved at all, other than as policymaker and enabler, it should be on the basis of private public partnership with government as junior partner.

On the security, “we need stick and carrot approach. Stick to deal with those who cannot be weaned out of criminality and evil deeds and for those weaned, they should be rehabilitated. There should be no Nigerian without being in school compulsorily for eleven years – secondary education level.

“Employment must be a right for all Nigerians from age 18 years to 65 years.
With such carrot in position, the stick must then be made more severe for criminals. Five years must be set out to ensure that every Nigerian child that is not in school is in school and no one is left out of popular education. Adult education should be embarked upon to give every Nigerian basic education equivalent to six years of formal education. We should give ourselves ten years to rid Nigeria of illiteracy. No matter what we do, if we do not find a way of educating, giving skills and empowerment, over 20 million Nigerian children that are out of school today will end up being rich recruitment centre for drug addicts, Boko Haram, bandits and other social misfits.

Find people with high expectations and a low tolerance for excuses. They’ll have higher expectations for you than you have for yourself. Don’t flatter yourself that this has much to do with you – this is just who they are. Don’t look for “nice” in these relationships. Look for trust.

Be fearless in front of them with your ideas as many times as they’ll let you

Beauty Dust is very pretty to look at and it tastes like nothing, which is great. Here is what it’s supposed to do: This ancient empiric formula expands beauty through alchemizing elements legendary for their youth preserving, fortifying and tonifying qualities. Glowing supple skin, lustrous shiny hair and twinkling bright eyes are holistically bestowed from the inside out.

I actually first read this as alkalizing meaning effecting pH level, and I was like, OK I guess I understand how that could positively effect your body, but alchemizing means turning elements to gold basically through magic. That lead me to research each ingredient because I know alchemy is not actually happening in my body when I eat this, since alchemy is not real.

In addition to loving beauty and taking care of myself, I also love opening people minds to other paths of self-care, and good marketing and I can honestly say that I use and personally love this product but I’m not sure for which reason.

I think it made me think about it more and really consider why I was choosing to add this to my routine

It poses an interesting question for me on the wellness category – will people be willing to buy in, or does eating something change your “sniff” test on the believe-ability of the claims?

The color is very long lasting and they have an interesting texture that’s like a powder and a cream but neither really. They’re made with pure pigments and oils and will never melt with the warmth of your skin because they don’t contain any waxes. You can literally use them for anything – obviously as eye shadow and liner, but the light shade is a great highlighter, and the red can be used for lip or blush with a little balm.

There’s also a little pouch to store the rollerballs, and a card with different inspirations as to how to blend them on your skin – but it’s foolproof. You can’t make a mess if you mix them all up.
