In preparation for local government autonomy, Osun State Local Government Service Commission is leaving no stone unturned in equipping its staff to grapple with the prospective responsibilities.
Recently, it organised a two-day workshop for directors of Administration and General Services, Finance and Accounts, Procurement, as well as Internal Auditors in the local government areas.
It would be recalled that the commission had earlier conducted a similar workshop for all Heads of Local Government Administration, HLAs.
In his opening remarks at the workshop which was handled by by the Auditor-General for Local Government, Mr Isiaq Awotunde, alongside the General Manager for Public Procurement Agency, Engineer Babatunde Oyetola, the Chairman of Osun Local Government Service Commission, Tunji Adeleke (jnr) noted that because the participating cadres are key to the new local government reform, they need to be conversant with the rudiments of their jobs.
While appreciating Governor Ademola Adeleke for providing an enabling environment for the training and retraining of staff, Adeleke promised that there would be further trainings for staff development.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Commission, Mrs Modupe Irelewuyi said the workshop was strategically organised to equip key officers with the requisite knowledge to navigate the new dispensation in local government administration.
She admonished the officers to stay abreast of what to do at all times so that they would not be found wanting.
The workshop reflected on existing rules and regulations governing local government operations, as well as the nitty gritty of public procurement.
The programme was also graced by the two Commissioners in the LGSC, Jimoh Adetoro and Adesina Alaran, including the management team of the commission.
