Ahead of the February 22, local government election in Osun State, the State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, yesterday released the list of successful applicants for ad-hoc staff positions.
The Commission stated that the recruitment is part of its efforts to ensure a smooth electoral process.
The statement made available to our Correspondent in Osogbo by the OSSIEC’s Information Officer, Sadiat Isiaka, informed that the selected applicants include civil servants, teachers, academics, members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and retirees who are still willing to serve.
The categories of ad-hoc staff recruited for the exercise are Returning Officers, RO’s, Supervisory Presiding Officers, SPOs, Presiding Officers, POs, and Poll Clerks, PCs.
Each role is expected to contribute to the smooth conduct of the elections.
The statement added that, “The commission has carefully selected individuals with experience and integrity to ensure a credible election process”.
The OSSIEC Information Officer said further that, training sessions have been scheduled to equip the ad-hoc staff with the necessary knowledge.
The training for Supervisory Presiding Officers will take place between February 1 and 2, 2025, while the training dates for other categories of ad-hoc staff will be announced soon.
OSSIEC emphasised that participation in the training is mandatory for all successful applicants.
Applicants who applied for the positions are advised to check their status on the commission’s website.
Those shortlisted must bring copies of their respective printouts or PDF slips to the training center.
“The Commission urges all shortlisted candidates to comply with the instructions and ensure they attend the training as scheduled”, the statement added.
OSSIEC further assured that proper arrangements have been made to facilitate a seamless training process.
OSSIEC reiterated its commitment to conducting a free, fair and credible local government election.
The Commission assured the public that all necessary measures were being put in place to guarantee transparency.
“The success of the election depends on the dedication of our ad-hoc staff. We expect all recruited individuals to discharge their duties with professionalism”, Isiaka stated.
With adequate preparations, the commission encouraged the public to demonstrate their unflinching support to its efforts towards a hitch-free election, stressing that fairness and efficiency remain its top priorities.
