Mr Adesina Rabiu, representing Iwo Constituency at the Osun House of Assembly, yesterday decried the alleged attacks on his constituents by people of Lagelu Community in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Rabiu, who presented the plight of his people before the Assembly during the “matter of urgent public importance”, said the attacks on some villages in Iwo had led to the displacement of some residents.
“I want to report the encroachment of Iwo land villages by the Lagelu Community of Ibadan, Oyo State.
“Few months ago, I brought this matter before this house and Mr Speaker expressed deep concerns over the plight of the affected dwellers.
“I must inform you that these agents of discord have once again invaded the Iwo communities resulting in the burning of two to three houses in the axis.
“Consequently, several residents of the attacked communities have been deeply displaced.
“It is worthy to note that several numerous peaceful intervention had been initiated by the elders of Iwo town to resolve this age long land dispute amicably.
“However, the Lagelu Community of Ibadan has remained uncooperative.
“Therefore, before this issue escalate to a full blown communal crisis, the people of Iwo constituency are appealing to Gov. Ademola Adeleke to intervene by engaging his Oyo State counterpart, Gov. Seyi Makinde with a view to resolving this crisis once and for all”, he said.
He said two young men ,siblings, in his constituency, who are students of the tertiary instruction, that came home to collect food stuffs, were arrested on Sunday by policemen from Iyaganku Police Division, Ibadan.
He said the sad part was that the arrested students were to start their examination yesterday.
Mr Adewale Egbedun, Speaker of the Assembly, said an Ad-hoc Committee, headed by the Deputy Speaker, Akinade Oyewusi, had been setup on the issue.
He said the committee should be given time to do its work, adding that the committee should report back to the house in two weeks.
Thereafter, the Osun State Customary Court of Appeal Establishment Amendment Bill 2025, and Osun State District Customary Court and Customary Court Establishment Amendment Bill 2025 were passed for first reading.
Similarly, Osun State Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gun Shot Bill 2025 and Osun State Communal Crisis Management and Peace Building Bill 2025 scaled seconding reading after their policy thrusts were read.
The speaker stated that there will be a public hearing, which date will be communicated later, on the Osun State Communal Crisis Management and Peace Building Bill 2025 .
