Aide to the immediate past governor of Benue State on media and publicity, Terver Akase has called for the resignation of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Fidelis Mnyim, over allegedly misleading information.
Akase made the call in a statement in reaction to Mnyim’s recent media interview that the current government is struggling with N3.6 billion in consent judgements inherited from Samuel Ortom’s administration, contradicting his previous claim of N14 billion.
Arguing that the attorney-general’s contradictory statements were an attempt to mislead government and create conflict, Akase reminded Mnyim that most of the issues pertaining to pension and gratuity cases were inherited by Ortom’s administration.
He recalled that in 2015, the immediate past administration resolved pension arrears and gratuity disputes through amicable agreement, despite facing economic challenges, including recessions and the COVID-19 pandemic. He blamed the current administration’s decision to abandon these payment arrangements for further litigations.
Akase questioned Mnyim’s role in these developments, given his previous representation of clients who litigated against the state government and suggested that he clarifies whether his past cases contributed to the N3.6 billion garnishee orders.
The former governor’s aide reaffirmed Ortom’s commitment to the success of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration, wishing him well in providing democracy dividends to the people.
