The Nigerian Navy has assured commitment to the meet the presidential directive of producing 2 million barrels of oils daily .
This was made known by the commander , Nigeria Navy Ship, Soroh, Commodore Omobamidele Akinbami while briefing pressmen in a Media tour on the activities and achievements Operation Delta Safe in Bayelsa .
He explained that the armed forces are committed to maintaining security and safety in their operational areas, particularly in Bayelsa State.
The commander warned unscrupulous elements to cease illegal activities as the region will not tolerate such actions.
Commodore Akinbami reiterates navy commitment to this strategic directive and its efforts to prevent illegal activities in the region.
“We are warning anybody planning or indulging in illegal activities to desist from it, because Bayelsa State and its environments will not be an area for them to thrive. we continue to ensure that we achieve the mandate from the presidency, which is to ensure that 2 million barrels is produced daily.
“Furthermore, this was a directive that was gotten from the chief of Naval staff, and the chief of defense staff. and we shall continue to maintain this directive,” he noted.
While presenting the achievements of the ship in Kinetic and Non-Kinetic Operations, he stressed that while kinetic operations are the mainstay, non-kinetic operations are increasingly important in engaging with host communities.
He added that Non-kinetic efforts, help in improving community relations and gathering information for decisive action.
According to him, the non-kinetic efforts have led to significant improvements in community relations, with some communities almost treating the Navy as part of their military location.
Speaking on Infrastructures and Future Prospects, he discussed the lack of infrastructure and amenities in the creeks of the South South region, which poses significant challenges.
He expressed optimism that in two to three years, the situation will significantly improve, with bad elements realizing the futility of their actions.
He noted that the overall goal is to ensure that the percentage of law-abiding citizens in the region is so high that criminal activities become unsustainable.
