Ogun State House of Assembly has urged Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, to speed up action on the erection of electricity poles to affected communities in Yewa North Local Government Area.

AljazirahNigeria reports that some electric poles had been damaged in the communities by a Dangote haulage truck.

Speaking on the floor of the Assembly in Abeokuta, the member representing Yewa North 1 State Constituency,  Adegoke Adeyanju called on IBEDC to accelerate work on fixing the poles since Dangote Cement Factory had supplied the electrical items to reinstall power to the affected communities.

Responding, Speaker Oludaisi Elemide asked IBEDC to swiftly take action to re-electrify the communities affected with the available electrification items supplied by Dangote Cement Factory.

Earlier in his presentation, Adeyanju stated that Dangote Cement, as part of its corporate social responsibility, had already provided the necessary materials for the project, leaving IBEDC to fulfill its part in restoring power to the communities.

He thanked traditional rulers in the area and other interest groups including the members of the National Youth Council.

Also during plenary, Speaker Elemide directed the House committee to interface with the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to address concerns regarding  Imodi-Mosan roads; following a personal explanation presented by Olusegun Odunuga on the need to fix some roads in his constituency.

In the same vein, the member representing Ifo 2 State Constituency, Fola Salami presented a petition on behalf of Oke-Aro/Akute/Asoore/Ajuwon area by officers and Baale from Akinosi Area Development Committee, Ifo Local Government Area, on the environmental degradation caused by the laying of water pipes for Lagos State by a civil engineering contractor, SALINI Nigeria Limited.

Meanwhile, the Assembly  observed a minute silence in honour of the late Oniko of Ikolaje Idiroko, Oba John Olakunle Ojo, who passed on at the age of 82, following a presentation by the member representing Ipokia/Idiroko, Adebisi Oyedele.
