Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested three suspects for alleged dollar scam and ‘one chance’ activities within Enugu metropolis.
NSCDC recovered fake identification cards, a stolen tricycle with Adamawa State plate number painted in Enugu colour and registration from the suspects, as well as a consignment of dollars that would undergo chemical washing.
Its State Commandant, Dr Elijah Willie said while parading the suspects yesterday in Enugu, that they were apprehended at about 11:28am on Tuesday, January 28.
Willie said a tricycle was intercepted by operatives of the corps between NOWAS and New Market axis of Enugu and upon investigation, it was discovered that the suspects were involved in dollar scam and ‘one chance’ operations.
“The suspects have been posing as legitimate tricycle operators, picking up unsuspecting passengers and attempting to trick them into parting with their valuables.
“Their modus operandi involved the suspects creating a distraction such as fake argument or a sudden stop, and then robbing the passengers of their belongings,” he said.
The commandant said the suspects are currently in custody pending further investigation.
He advised members of the public to be vigilant when using public transportation and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
Willie commended the swift response of operatives of NSCDC which prevented further harm to unsuspecting passengers.
