The Nigeria Shooting Federation (NSF) is working tirelessly to make 2025 a breakthrough year for its athletes and officials.
President of the federation, Navy Captain Bamidele Olatunji Ayoade, made this commitment during the NSF board meeting held at the Velodrome, Package A, of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
According to Captain Ayoade, the federation is determined to elevate shooting as a more recognized and competitive sport in Nigeria.
“We just concluded our board meeting, where we discussed our annual plans, funding strategies, and grassroots development. We are putting measures in place to ensure a successful 2025,” he stated.
He further highlighted the federation’s focus on Olympic qualifiers, athlete training, and capacity-building for coaches and officials.
“We are working towards ensuring our athletes, coaches, and juries receive adequate training to compete at the highest level,” Ayoade added.
Addressing concerns about the sport’s perception, he noted that discussions are ongoing with relevant authorities to promote shooting as a recreational and competitive discipline rather than one associated with negative connotations.
Looking ahead, the NSF president assured stakeholders that several competitions are lined up for Nigerian athletes.
“We have the Late Felix Ogba National Open Championship, the ISF World Cup for Rifle and Pistol, the World Championship, and many other events. I can confidently say that better days are ahead for shooting in Nigeria,” he affirmed.
The board meeting was attended by all NSF board members, led by Captain Ayoade, alongside the federation’s Secretary General, Mrs. Oyindolapo Tinuoso.
