Nigeria Set To Launch Africa’s First AI University In Lagos

Date:

Nigeria is set to open the first university in Africa dedicated solely to artificial intelligence (AI), with the institution scheduled to launch in Epe, Lagos.

The university, named Wini Institution, aims to equip young Nigerians with advanced AI skills and position the country as a global leader in AI and technology innovation.

Wini University, inspired by the first AI-focused university founded in Qatar, plans to contribute to reducing unemployment and fostering a thriving tech community in Africa.

The project, which began in 2016, has gained significant support and approval from Nigeria’s National University Commission (NUC).

The vision behind Wini University is to create an educational hub that trains top-tier academics and students in AI and quantum computing, shaping a new generation of innovators who will play an active role in the global AI landscape.

The university’s mission is to turn Lagos into Africa’s Silicon Valley, a region where technology and innovation drive economic growth.

Through offering cutting-edge programmes in AI, blockchain, cloud computing, machine learning, and more, the university will empower students to lead in an AI-driven world. This bold initiative is set to play a significant role in transforming African education and tech industries.
