Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has been criticized for leaving the state in the height of insecurity and banditry to the holy land Mecca without transmitting power to anyone in the state as enshrined in the constitution.
Aljazirah Nigeria recall that the Governor, his Deputy, the speaker and 13 members of the state house of assembly left the shores of Nigeria this week in a chartered flight to perform holly pilgrimage without transmission of power to anyone which has attracted wide criticism .
The opposition in the state had described it as reckless and abuse of power for abandoning their responsibility and neglecting the plight of the people amidst current insecurity challenge in the state.
Speaking to Journalists in Mina , leader of opposition political parties in the state, Alh Abdulhamid Danladi and Chieftain of Nw Nigerian People’s Party NNPP , expressed shock over the decision of the governor, the deputy, and speaker to leave the state in vacum.to perform pilgrimage.
He said "With this singular act government activities have been paralysed and the celebration of democracy day is been marked in vacuum"this is violation of the section 190 (1) of the 1999 constitution as amended."
Abdulhamid accused governor Mohammed Umar Bago of persistent disregard for the people ,constitution and law by acting based on his monopoly of knowledge and arbitrariness , treating everyone as his servant instead of being the servant of the people"
He expressed disappointment over the way and manner Governor Mohammed Umar Bago led administration has been operating without respect to the feelings of the citizens despite the current security situation of the state..
Also ,speaking zonal Chairman of People’s Democratic Party PDP, Alhaji Yahaya Ability, alleged that the All Progressives Congress APC is known for outright violation of the laws especially under the leadership of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger state.
According to Ability, ” the matter is worse because the assembly speaker Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji who supposed to receive a written letter of transmission of power also left together with the governor, describing the state assembly as a rubber stamp in the pocket of the governor”
