NiDCOM Rescues 2 Nigerians Trafficked For Prostitution In Ghana

Date:

Agency Report

Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, said two additional girls trafficked for prostitution in Ghana have been rescued.

Its Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocol, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said the girls were rescued by Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation, NIDO, in Ghana on Monday.

According to him, the two girls, one from Edo and the other from Lagos, live in Lagos.

Narrating their ordeal, one of them said they were trafficked into prostitution under the guise of working as sales girls in supermarkets.

She said their captor made them swear an “oath” that would make them go mad if they escaped.

The rescued girl added that their phones were seized and they were also threatened with the release of their nude pictures and videos.

NiDCOM’s Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa said the girls, who are now in safe custody, are giving useful information aimed at tracking down their traffickers.

Dabiri-Erewa added that arrangements will be made to get them back to Nigeria and handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP.

The NiDCOM boss reiterated her call for efforts to combat human trafficking in all ramifications.

Earlier this month, a series of videos of teenage girls between the ages of 15 and 18 lured into prostitution in Ghana went viral on X.

The girls, over 10 of them, returned to Nigeria on Friday.

Dabiri-Erewa said the suspected trafficker has been arrested.
