The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC) have entered into a strategic partnership to safeguard the personal and corporate data of exporters in Nigeria. The collaboration aims to strengthen data security measures, enhancing the global competitiveness of Nigerian exporters.
During a meeting in Abuja with the National Commissioner/CEO of NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, the Executive Director/CEO of NEPC, Nonye Ayeni, underscored the critical role of data protection in promoting Nigeria’s trade reputation. She highlighted that robust data security will increase the country’s credibility in international markets, ultimately attracting more Foreign Direct Investments (FDI).
According to a statement by Ndubueze Okeke, Head of Corporate Communications at NEPC, Ayeni emphasized that protecting exporters’ data is key to securing positive endorsements from the global business community, which will bolster Nigeria’s standing in trade relations.
Dr. Olatunji, reaffirming the NDPC’s commitment to data privacy, stressed the need for collaborative efforts to prevent data misuse and ensure ethical practices.
He called on NEPC to establish a dedicated data protection unit to monitor the processing of exporters’ information, ensuring full compliance with legal standards. He also promised that the NDPC would offer capacity-building initiatives to help NEPC adopt international best practices in data management.
