New Executive Director, National Cereal Research Institute, NCRI, Baddegi, Niger State, Dr Mohamed Ishaq said the institute will be repositioned for effective service delivery to ensure food sufficiency in the country.

Ishaq, who has since assumed office, stated this in a chat with newsmen in Bida.

He said the backwardness in the institute could be attributed to lack of funds which is paramount in conducting meaningful research.

According to him, “As a long serving senior staff of the institute, I am aware of some constraints that have become a clog in the wheel of its overall development and will not hesitate to put up machinery for the smooth operation of my tenure.”

Ishaq explained that part of his priorities is to organise a retreat and also promote training and retraining of staff to enable them be abreast with the rudiments and policies establishing the institute.

“My concern is to bring back the lost glory of Badegi Research Institute which can be realised through collaborative efforts to overcome the bottlenecks that have constituted a challenge to the progress of the institute.”

In a separate interview, the Chairman, Joint Union of NCRI, Comrade Dogo Saleh said the appointment is a round peg in a round hole and would make a difference.
